On Thursday, December 15, 2022, Cora “Corky” Michelle Hastings, passed away at age ninety-three. Corky or Michelle as most people knew her by was born on July 24, 1929 in Pueblo, Colorado to Juan and Camilla Romero.
At age 23, Michelle graduated from nursing school in 1952. In 1957, Michelle started working at Oakland Children’s Hospital as a surgery nurse. While working at the Children’s Hospital Michelle also volunteered to coordinate many holiday party’s for for patients and staff with Christmas being her favorite. After 35 years as a surgery nurse she was ready for retirement.
During retirement Michelle enjoyed walks, gardening and volunteering with various groups and organizations at St. Leo’s.
Michelle was known as many things to many people. She was a loved one, a friend and someone special. To family and friends who knew her best, Michelle will be remembered as a very exceptional person. Michelle was a wonderful mother and a beloved member of the Brandon Street community. She also enjoyed traveling. Michelle’s laughter and smile lit up the room.
She is survived by her brother Sam, son, Tad, daughter, Josie and Grandchildren, Annamarie, MaryJo, Frank, Victoria and Princess and several great-grandchildren as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
Simply stated, Michelle was a good kind person, individual who will for all time be remembered by her family and friends as being caring and giving person, someone who was a vital part of their lives. Michelle leaves behind a legacy of life-long friendships and many cherished memories. Everyone whose life she touched will always remember Cora “Corky” Michelle Hastings.
