April 4, 1930 - April 25, 2021
Resident of Santa Clara, California
On April 25, 2021, Jane Uriko Ventura, 91, passed away to be with her husband, Tony Ventura, who preceded her in death by just four months. After 68 years of marriage (February 14, 1953), they simply could not live without each other. Jane had the most important job in the world raising and caring for her two sons, Robert and Edward. While Tony was an officer in the U.S. Army, it was Jane who commanded the home front.
Jane was born on April 4, 1924, to her parents Tom Masakichi and Matsuno Togashi. She had nine siblings: Judy Kimiko Wakatsuki, Alice Nobuko Kaneshiro, Richard Masakichi Togashi, Robert Tamio Togashi, Ruth Yoshie Palumbo, Mildred Tsuneko Lee, Edward Mikio Togashi, Elizabeth Sakiko Matsui and Evelyn Mitsuru Watts.
Here are a few memories from her sister, Mildred Lee:
“Jane was very close to her two (older) brothers. Everything she did was meant to be equal to her brothers – working hard and being as strong as they were. She would do things that we girls wouldn’t do, like climbing a very tall tree. On one occasion, on her way down from the tree, she fell on some broken glass. Jane had a very deep gash under her foot, which cut the nerve. She never cried. I have never seen her cry or hear her complain that she hurt.”
“Jane was a very good seamstress. She sewed many beautiful dresses for us young ones. Everything she made, she made it well.”
“While Jane put up a tough front, she was very soft inside. She was thoughtful, generous, and always helped the family.”
“When our brothers were drafted in the Korean War, Jane wanted to be near them. If the military had told her, by joining the service, she could march side-by-side with her brothers to the war front she would not hesitate and join. Unfortunately, it was impossible.”
“Jane got a civil service job and went to Japan knowing that she would see her brothers one day. There, she found the love of her life – Tony Ventura. That was the beginning of her family.”
Jane’s final resting place will be alongside Tony at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific located at Punchbowl Crater in Honolulu, Hawai’i.
The funeral date is Monday, July 12, 2021 at 1:00PM at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific
