He is predeceased by his parents Robert and Marie (Proctor) Johnson, sister Rosetta Frederick,
brother Avon Johnson and former wife Norma Johnson.
Melvin is survived by his wife Alice Owens Locicero Johnson and five sons:
Melvin Jr (Kelly); Ronald (Cherie); Kenneth (Lisa); Douglas (Lori), Bobby (Bozena)
and two stepsons David (Jeff Elardo) Locicero; Craig (Alice) Locicero.
He has 13 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was born in Baltimore MD in 1934, graduated Fredrick Douglas High School in June 1952
and immediately joined the US Air Force serving in weather and meteorology. He also worked
in the Air Pollution Control Division at the Clark County Health District in Las Vegas NV,
and later with the EPA and Telos Labs in Fremont installing toxic gas monitoring equipment and training staff.
Melvin relished coaching youth sports, He traveled widely for both work and pleasure on three continents.
He took great enjoyment from the family camp outs throughout the western US.
In retirement he served as a crossing guard for Fremont schools and more recently
enjoyed building dollhouses and bird houses.
Services will be at St James Episcopal Church at Thornton Ave and Cabrillo in Fremont.
Saturday Feb 12 at 10:30 am followed by an outdoor reception.
