Telemachus Clay (formerly known as Carlos Ernest Seaver), aged 79, passed on peacefully Sunday, October 9th 2016 at 10:05 a.m. Born in Alabama on April 3, 1937, attending school in Charleston, West Virginia, he lived in New York City, and in Oakland, Santa Cruz, and Berkeley, California. Employed by the Library of Congress and later heading 2 Wall Street law libraries, he was a skilled woodworker, origami folder, Tai Chi practitioner, and lover of music and theater. Telemachus appeared in several local stage productions, and was the subject of a short film on coping with Parkinson's disease (PD), which he suffered from since the early 1990's. He underwent a successful Deep Brain Stimulation surgery for PD in 2006, allowing him to regain his speech and muscle control. This procedure extended his life by 10 years. For several years he was active in the local PD community, dancing in the first Dancing with Parkinson performances in 2009. Known for his kindness, his generosity, and his bravery in his struggles with PD, Telemachus was loved by many and will be missed. A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, November 12, from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. at 1914 Oregon St., Berkeley. It will be a potluck, so please bring some food to share.
