Arthur Salazar Lucero

Art was born on May 30th, 1942 in Roswell New Mexico to Epinmenio Barela Lucero and Margie Salazar Lucero. When his father returned from war in 1945, they moved to Wilmington, CA where Art attended school- graduating from Phineas Banning High School in 1960. Art met the love of his life, Joan, while attending school and they were married in Long Beach in 1962.

Harbor College was his first introduction to college life before transferring to California State University at Long Beach (CSULB). Art received a Bachelor of Science, Administration of Justice in 1969. He continued his graduate studies at CSULB prior to entering a doctoral program at August Vollmer University, Orange CA where he received a Doctorate in Criminology in 1995. Art enjoyed a lengthy career with the California Department of Corrections as a Parole Administrator, Orange District - retiring in 2000. Art was Project Manager on a special two-year assignment in Washington D.C (1989-1997) for the National Institute of Corrections and NASA.

Art enjoyed family activities, especially traveling with family and friends. His favorite pastime was fishing, both deep sea and river fishing with his son, Luis, and anyone else who would join him. He was also an avid football fan. Art loved his family and friends and was a mentor to many through the years. In retirement he was a member of the Board of Directors for the T.HJ. Pendergast California Parole Museum.

Art is survived by his wife of 60 years, Joan Hendry Lucero, and son Luis David Lucero. He is a proud grandfather to Jessica Lynn Lucero Shepard (lee) and Nicole Marie Lucero Rodriguez (Ruben) and great-grandfather to Laura Jacqueline Rodriguez. Art was preceded in death by his daughter, Laura Maria Lucero McMahon, his brother Robert Gregory Lucero and his sister Adelina Veronica Lucero.
