Carmen went to be with our Lord on February 9, 2023, her daughter was by her side. She was able to be in the comfort of her own home with the loving care from Rey and Teresa, her main caregivers. Carmen was born in Monolith, California October 7, 1930. Her parents, Jose and Arnulfa Esparza Castro raised their family of 4 boys and 1 girl in the small mountain town of Monolith California. Carmen was surrounded by a loving family. Each sibling encouraged and helped the next toward loyalty and education. She was awarded a basketball scholarship to UCLA in 1949 but she was unable to accept because "girls" didn't go to college back then! After many years of a class here and there while raising a family and working full time she earned her AA degree. Carmen loved school. She worked in the medical field until she landed her dream job as Recreation Director for Hughes Aircraft at the Fullerton facility. She was a member of an investment club, an international tennis club and a square-dancing club. In 1985 Harvey and Carmen were married and they spent many wonderful years together. When she moved back to Huntington Beach from Temucula she joined a Newcomers club and became active with the Breast Cancer Angels. Traveling was one of her passions. She traveled to many exotic places. Carmen adored her family and was extremely proud of them. She is survived by her son Mike, his wife Sena and her daughter Diana and her husband Craig. 5 grandchildren, Kyle, Claire and Maria from Mike and Rob and Alisha from Diana and 14 greatgrandchildren. She set the example for her family and taught them how to be athletic, adventurous, generous, loving and kind. Carmen had a strong faith and had been a member of Saint Simon and Jude Church since 1964. Carmen proved her strength and tenacity when she fought through the injuries she sustained from the fall down the stairs in 2009. Carmen was an amazing person, and she will be greatly missed.
