While growing up in her birthplace of Rice, Minnesota, Donna flourished by way of her stellar academic performance, popularity amongst peers, and sheer musical talent. She was nominated to represent her hometown at Girls State, voted Homecoming Queen, and consistently received straight A’s. Dedicated to working at a young age, Donna saved her money as a baby sitter, and later graduated from waitress to evening piano performer at a local steakhouse. Many of her fondest childhood memories were gathered while living on the family 28-acre farm and enjoying her mother’s country baking.
Donna moved to Berkley, CA in 1952, followed by El Cerrito, CA. She would meet her husband of 67 years, Richard “Dick” Ardent, in September of 1954, whom she married on May 29th, 1955. The two would move twice before settling in San Bruno, CA in 1958 and gave birth to four children. In 1970, Donna and the family moved to Placentia, CA. Over the course of her career, she’d take up occupations within the insurance, ad agency, and financial fields, before retiring in the Mervyn’s clerical department in 1986.
In the years that followed, Donna enjoyed traveling the world. She was a phenomenal cook who delighted in hosting dinner parties, as well as a natural comedian, known for her witty sense of humor. With a passion for entertaining, a generous heart, and being active within her community, Donna was loved and appreciated by the extensive web of those who knew her. An eye for design, her home was made a sanctuary to unique artistic treasures she collected throughout her life.
Donna is predeceased by parents Florence Thompson, Theodore Thompson, and daughter Lori Ivany. She is survived by husband Richard Ardent, brother Norman Thompson, and children Lisa Meewes, Thomas Ardent, and Joseph Ardent. Donna is blessed with 8 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. She will be tremendously missed, with her memory cherished by us all.
