Fred Heller of Huntington Beach passed away on Wednesday, March 13, 2024 at the age of 85. He was born on October 18, 1937 to German immigrant parents. He grew up in Lynnwood, CA, where he graduated from Lynnwood High School.
He moved to Huntington Beach in 1967. He hired on to the Huntington Beach Fire Department as a Captain on August 16, 1967 and retired as Division Chief on December 23, 1991, a career spanning 24 years.
Fred was an avid outdoor enthusiast and loved fishing, boating, flying, and RV travel. He particularly loved fishing and boating, having owned a number of boats in his lifetime including the sailboat Esprit, the fishing boats Wild Turkey, Popeye, and Uno Mas, and a cruiser Caramba, as well as a couple of RVs and even a Cessna airplane. Fred loved his country and enthusiastically supported the principles and ideals on which America was founded.
Fred is survived by Cynthia Boon, with whom he spent the last 20 years of his life. Fred and Cynthia enjoyed life together to the fullest, dining out, drinking wine, cruising Newport Harbor in Caramba, and traveling.
Fred will be cremated and his ashes with be distributed at sea.
