Gertrude Rothery

Gertrude Rothery, 89, was born in 1934 in Yonkers, New York. Gertrude passed away at home on July 26, 2023, 7 years after the death of her husband of 63 years, Emil Rothery. She is survived by 5 children, Susan, Jerry, Carol, Brian and Jennie; 14 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and 1 expected great-grandchild.

Gertrude grew up in Yonkers, NY, where she married and began to raise a family. In 1964, she moved to Shrub Oak, NY, where she worked primarily as a homemaker, but also as a bank teller and a seasonal retail sales clerk. She and Emil retired to Cypress, California in 1991, and continued to maintain strong ties to New York, family, friends and neighbors. She was an ardent supporter of her grandchildren’s many sport and extra-curricular activities and was happiest when they, and more recently the great grandchildren, visited. She enjoyed traveling with her children and grandchildren, reading, social media, and buying gadgets on amazon. She also enjoyed knitting, and contributed to a volunteer group that made hats for people with cancer.

A funeral mass and celebration of life are planned. Please contact family for details. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to the American Lung Association or Precious Life Shelter in Los Alamitos.
