12, 2024. Mike was surrounded by his wife, Kathy and children, Susan and David at home in Coto de
Caza, California as he peacefully left this world.
Mike was born on November 13, 1939 in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, to Mary and James Madigan. He was
one of 3 sons. Mike attended St. John’s Catholic School in Johnstown, and upon a family move to
California, he graduated from Inglewood High School. Mike earned a Bachelor of Science in Business
Management from The University of Southern California. He completed graduate work in business
administration at the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs. Mike served his country as an active duty
member of the United States Air Force from 1959 to 1962. He was a member of the Air Force Reserve
until 1965 when he was honorably discharged from service.
Mike married Kathryn LaForte on June 29, 1963 at American Martyrs Catholic Church in Manhattan
Beach California. They welcomed their two children Susan and David in 1964 and 1965. A job transfer in
1971 took the family to Colorado Springs, Colorado where they spent many years enjoying the serene
beauty of the Rocky Mountains before returning to California in 1984.
Mike was employed by TRW for over 30 years. He began his career as an engineer, and quickly moved
up to the Director of Quality Assurance at Space Park in Redondo Beach, California. Mike helped
establish the TRW Electronic Products division in Colorado Springs as Director of Human Resources.
Mike was extremely active in his community, sitting on many boards and councils advising the
development of industry and military relationships in Colorado Springs. Upon retirement from TRW in
1999, Mike worked as a starter at the Coto de Caza Golf and Racquet Club. As well, he enjoyed working
for his son as the business manager of David-Michael Design, Inc.
Mike was an avid golfer and sports enthusiast. The USC Trojans and the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame
were games he and his family never missed. There wasn’t a golf course in sight that Mike didn’t conquer.
He passed on his love of golf to his grandchildren - and he even played a round in Hawaii with his
daughter and son-in-law. Working on projects with family and friends was a true passion. Whether
building a barn for their horses, a fort for his kids, a cabin in the mountains for his family, or crafts in the
workshop, Mike made sure every detail was covered. Frequent road trips centered around family,
camping, fishing, skiing and tobogganing. Weekend parties with dear neighbors were always filled with
great food, laughter, music and dancing; a lasting bond of friendships endured.
Mike is survived by his wife, Kathryn, children Susan and David, their spouses Bill and Drew,
grandchildren Matthew, Andrea and her spouse, Brian, great-granddaughter, Ava Kathryn, brothers Jim
and Vince, sister’s in law Ellie, Sandy, Mary, and Helen, brother’s in law Manfred and Max, and numerous
nieces, and nephews. He enjoyed life-long friendships with his high school buddies. Mike was a friend to
all and never knew a stranger. He made everyone he came in contact with feel welcome, appreciated,
and valued. Mike was deeply loved and he will forever be in our hearts.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, February 7, 2025 at San Francisco Solano
