Nancy was born in Ponca City, Oklahoma.
She is predeceased by her parents Walter F. Gray and Helen C. (Higham) Gray and her brother Walter Steven Gray.
Her father served as a Western Navajo Superintendent. Subsequent transfers took the family to Tuba City, AZ; Fort Wingate, NM; Fort Yates, ND and Fort Sill, OK.
When she graduated from college she moved to Venezuela for a few years, then to Saudi Arabia and finally to Southern California. She passed away in Huntington Beach, CA
Nancy had a passion for education, travel, history and her Catholic religion. She spoke multiple languages. She was a Fulbright scholar. After earning multiple degrees, she worked for the Long Beach School District. She was the founding teacher for the PACE program for Long Beach Poly High School, a nationally recognized success story.
Nancy Gray was a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society (London) in recognition of her many exploratory journeys in the Middle East and other parts of the developing world. Every chance she had she would choose a new country to explore and experience, adding more than 100 visited to her list. She had many travelling companions including her Aunt, brother and friends.
In retirement she became an accomplished author of 2 personal experience biographies, Sun, Sand and Single and soon to be released Good Morning Venezuela. She was a participant in the Yale Writers' Conference memoir group,
Nancy enjoyed sharing her experiences with everyone. She had a teacher's way of describing events that made one feel like they were there with her.
Her remains will be placed with those of her parents and brother at St. Andrew’s Columbarium in Sedona, AZ at a date yet to be determined.
She will be missed by us all. May you always feel God's love around you. Rest in peace dear aunt, cousin and friend.
