on October25, 1934 and went home to the Lord on Sunday, December 17, 2023.
He is survived by two children Robert and Bernard and two grandchildren Karina
and Miles and predeceased by his son Samuel Jr., his wife Ruby, his mother and
father, three uncles and an aunt.
He attended Bishop Dubois H.S., obtained a B.A. degree from N.Y.U., and a L.L.B
degree from Fordham University School of Law.
Samuel began the practice of law in Washington D.C. at the Federal
Communications Commission in 1961, and shortly thereafter transferred to the
United States Department of Justice where he spent 8 years as Trial Attorney in
the Tax division. His next position was with the Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights
Under Law until he returned in 1970 to New York City as Senior Counsel in the
legal department of the Atlantic Richfield Company (ARCO). When that company
moved its headquarters to Los Angeles, he moved with it eventually retiring from
the practice of law in 1985.
His maintained his connection with the law by teaching in then chairing the
paralegal education program at Rio Hondo College in 1986, until his retirement in
2006.
At the age of 62, he took vocal lessons at Cal State Long Beach and joined The
Gwen Wyatt Chorale on Los Angeles and subsequently the choir AT Good
Shepherd Presbyterian Church in Los Alamitos.
He is the author of two works of fiction, “Law Versus Order” and Young Phoenix.
Samuel was a proud member of the Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity.
