In Loving Memory of Theodore E. Mech Jr.
Theodore E. Mech Jr., known affectionately as Ted, peacefully passed away on November 2, 2023, at the age of 70. Born in Evanston, Illinois, Ted's journey came to a gentle close in Laguna Woods, California.
Ted was a man of unwavering dedication and deep passions. From an early age, he found solace and fascination in the world of automobiles. His love for all things automotive was evident as he eagerly explored their intricate workings and marveled at their mechanical wonders. However, life took an unexpected turn when a trampoline accident at the age of 17 altered his path. Undeterred by this setback, Ted redirected his energy towards academics, becoming an avid reader with a particular interest in technological advancements and environmental issues. He also found joy and respite in attending live music events and was an avid fan of the bands Jethro Tull and the Young Dubliners. Their music touched his soul.
Education played a vital role in Ted's life. He graduated from Mundelein High School in 1971. Continuing his quest for knowledge, he earned a degree in Journalism/Radio and TV at Southern Illinois University in 1975. In 1977 he entered a computer programming training program with Kemper Insurance that laid foundation for a career in Information Technology.
Ted's professional career was marked by his analytical acumen and commitment to excellence. From 1988 to 2005, he served as a Systems Analyst at Medstar Health Systems, making contributions to the improvement of healthcare systems. Later, from 2005 to 2012, he continued to excel in his role as a Systems Integration Analyst at Banner Health, where his expertise and dedication shone brightly.
Beyond his professional achievements, Ted found solace and fulfillment in the art of writing. Whether it was expressing his thoughts or exploring his creative side, he found a sense of purpose and self-expression through the written word.
Ted's memory will forever be cherished by his beloved wife, Carol, who stood by his side with unwavering support and love throughout their journey together. He will also be lovingly remembered by his brother, Douglas Mech, and his wife Mary; his sister, Christine Kwiatkowski, and her husband Kevinn; and his brother, Steven Mech, and his wife Annie. Ted's parents, Theodore and Florence, preceded him in death, leaving behind a legacy of warmth and guidance.
Theodore E. Mech Jr. will be remembered as a man of integrity, resilience, wit and unwavering devotion to his family. His legacy will endure through the memories shared by those who had the privilege of knowing him.
