Alex was born May 25, 1947 in Los Angeles, California to Ernest Nevarez of Las Cruces, New Mexico and Lillian Segura Nevarez of Bisbee, Arizona. He is survived by his wife, Olga Velasquez Nevarez; son Alexander Nevarez and son-in-law Michael Guest, of Miami Beach, Florida; daughter Brenda Nevarez Caufield and son-in-law Timothy Caufield, of Menifee, California; granddaughter Madelyn Elise Caufield, of New York, New York; grandson Timothy Liam Caufield, of Menifee, California; and sisters Adeline Nevarez Puentes and Paula Flores Garcia, of Whittier, California. Alex is preceded in death by his parents and by his brothers, Ernest “Ernie” and Ronald Nevarez.
Alex married Olga in 1967 at the age of 20. At age 21, Alex bravely served in the Vietnam War from 1967 to 1969. After returning home, he worked hard to support his family and raise his children. Alex loved the outdoors and took his family on several memorable camping trips throughout the American West. As a young man, Alex loved to sing and his family always enjoyed listening to his beautiful voice. Among his friends and family, he will be remembered as having a generous heart, always willing to help others in need and the less fortunate. Throughout his life, he enjoyed spending time with his family and dogs, which always brought him great joy. Alex was a proud Army veteran until the day he died. He was loved dearly and will be missed.
Alex will be interred with military honors, privately, by his immediate family on Friday, March 17, 2023 at Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside, California.
