Donald D. MacDougall passed away on December 18 at the Village Health Care Center in Hemet. He was 94 years old and is survived by his wife, Deanna Easter MacDougall and his blended family of 8 children, 14 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. A Celebration of His Life will be held at Bryant St;. Baptist Church in Yucaipa on Saturday, January 11 at 4:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Samaritan's Purse.
Don was a long time resident of California having moved here from New York when he was five years old. After graduating from High School He attended California Institute of Technology for two years. He joined the Navy and graduated in 1945 with a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering and an appointment to Officers' Training school. Don went on to Midshipman School at Notre Dame and was commissioned as Ensign USNR, then on to Harvard for Navy Supply Corps training. In 1946 he was stationed at Radio Guam for six months as a decoder. After his release from active duty he entered the Active Naval Reserves as an Ensign. During the years from 1950-1955, Don returned to Cal Tech and earned B.S. and M.S. degrees` in Civil Engineering.. Don remained in the Naval Reserves for 21 years until he retired as a Lieutenant in 1966. During those years he met and married Thelma Geison MacDougall, who is now deceased, and they had four daughters. He worked for the Los Angeles County Road Department as a Civil Engineer until he retired in 1984.
Don was a member of the L. A. Wheelmen and traveled throughout the California coast. One year he put more miles on his bicycle than he did on his car. He was a lover of Big Band music, Science Fiction, Bridge, Bible Study, Walking and working with his tools. He was a true "Mr. Fixit".He also went scuba diving and became a pretty good clogger. The greatest joy came from his relationship with his Savior and Lord. He was an active member of Bryant Street Baptist Church and held a Men's Bible Study in his home for 20 years.
In 1992 he met Deanna Easter with whom he was married for the past 26 years. She also had four children and they spent many occasions attending graduations, weddings, and welcoming new grandchildren into their blended family. For 23 years they enjoyed their life in Highland Springs Country Club in Cherry Valley until their recent move to The Village Retirement Community in Hemet. He was truly a Patriot, lover of God and Country.
He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
