Ed loved to play the accordion off and on from age 10 into his 30’s. He graduated from Blue Island High School, where he was an all-star pitcher and basketball player and went on to earn his degree of Bachelor of Science in Business Administration at Bradley University, where he was a "standout" on the baseball and basketball teams as a pitcher and a center. In March of 1957, Ed received a letter from the New York Giants to try out for their pro-baseball team.
He worked as a vice president at Litton Industries, owned and operated a 7,000 sq ft general store, known as Foothills Market, in South Fork, Colorado for 20 years and worked in administration field until he retired at the age of 70. After retiring, Ed volunteered at St. Francis Hospital in Colorado Springs and then as president of his homeowner's association for 3 years.
Ed married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Adam in 1959. They had 2 children, Lauri Michelle and Michael Edward. Barbara passed away with cancer in 1966. Ed met his 2nd wife, Vicki (Mochon) while working at Litton Industries. They wed in April of 1969. Vicki legally adopted Lauri and Mike and in 1971 they had a son, Scott Anthony.
Ed was a very smart, friendly, athletic man who loved the Lord. His favorite scripture verse was Proverbs 3:5 & 6. "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths." His favorite song was “He Lives”. Ed spent most of his leisure time playing pickleball, which he claimed the gold medal in the Olympics for his age group. He also enjoyed playing golf, spending time with his family, taking care of all the plants in the yard and just being outdoors.
Ed was predeceased by his parents, Peter and Sophie Kissel, his wife, Barbara Kissel, and his grandson, Michael Richardson. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Vicki Kissel; 3 children, Lauri Richardson(Jim) of Menifee, Mike Kissel (Corean) of Menifee and Scott Kissel (Kris) of Fort Collins, CO; 7 grandchildren, Bridget Richardson , Kayla Osborn (Michael) of Menifee, CA, Jarred Good of Key West, FL and Kyle Good of South Fork, CO, Reagan, Whitney and Tennison Kissel of Fort Collins, CO; 2 great grandchildren, Shylah Richardson and Bree Richardson of Menifee, CA; 3 brothers, Donald (Judy) Kissel of Homer Glen, IL, Robert (Judy) Kissel of Palos Heights, IL, Richard Kissel (Bobbie) of Olympia, WA and a sister, Eleanor (Willard) Roper of Sedona, AZ. Ed will be greatly missed by all his family and friends.
A "Celebration of Life" will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, December 6, 2021 @ Revival Church, 29220 Scott Rd, Menifee, CA 92584. All are welcome. A reception will be held after the service. Place will be determined at a later date.
