Evelyn, known as “Lynn” to family & friends, was born Evelyn Gertrude Barrow in New Bloomfield Missouri. She was raised on the family farm and was the 2nd to the youngest of 7 children, the only girl with 6 brothers.
She loved family life on the farm but did admit to feeling “lonely” at times being the only girl with friends so far away. She moved into town and lived with an Aunt and older brother to attend Fulton High School, she graduated from William Woods College and taught school for a couple of years at the Cave School. She later attended the University of Missouri where she met her First Husband, John R. Amick (Bob). They lived in Missouri for a while then on to Valentine, Nebraska and Lawrence, Kansas while Bob completed Physical Therapy and Chiropractic School, then later moved to Omaha Nebraska where they settled and raised 2 children, Jack and Debbie. As the kids got older, she worked at the Chiropractic office part time. Later in life she separated and eventually divorced (1972) and worked as a Guidance Counselor for 8 years at Yuta Halee rehabilitation home for pre-delinquent girls. Then she went on to a “fun” job as a Fraternity House Mother at the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity on the Lincoln Campus of the University of Nebraska. Visiting Fulton for a Family Reunion In 1977 she had the good fortune of renewing friendship after 35 years with retired Cdr. J. Roy “JR” Jackson. She relocated to Solana Beach, California, where she and JR married in 1979 at their home overlooking the mountains. They lived adjacent to a golf-course, she used to say “he played golf while she tagged along!” Lynn enjoyed her new life in San Diego, she did some “free-lance modelling” for a while which kept her involved and busy. She loved sports; she and JR held season tickets for the Chargers, Padres and San Diego State games for many years. She walked every morning, enjoyed gardening, gatherings with friends and neighbors, and hosting family visits whenever possible. JR passed away in 2004 but Lynn continued to live independently at their home until 2018 at the age of 94, when she moved to the Carlotta Senior Living Community in Palm Desert, Ca., to be closer to her daughter.
Lynn is survived by her son and daughter, 2 Step-Daughters, 6 Grandchildren, 13 Great Grandchildren, and 1 Great-Great Grandchild.
There will be a private family service. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be made to the Barrow Family Memorial Scholarship at Westminster College, 501 Westminster Ave. Fulton, MO 65251.
