May 30,1943- June 27,2023
George Roderick McWilliam, known to his family as “Rick” was a true Californian.
His love for Yosemite and the Sierras was second only to his love for his wife Judy, his children Brett and Brianne ( Sebastian) his grandchildren Valencia and Lucia Almeida and sister Carolyn (Don) Broback.
Rick was an avid adventurer, hiking thousands of miles over a lifetime through the mountains and valleys of California, Oregon, Washington, Grand Canyon, Canada, Europe, and even the Himalayas of Nepal.
Rick was born in 1943 to Rodney and Bonnie McWilliam and grew up and lived most of his life in Sacramento before continuing his retirement in Palm Desert, Ca.
He was preeminent “founding father” of the labor relations program for California working to help form the basic bargaining unit structure that exists today. As Chief of labor relations he led the program for 16 years, no one has held the position longer.
He attended the University of California at Berkeley and held a MBA from Sacramento State. Rick was an avid fan of Cal football games.
Rick had an outrageous sense of humor and charisma.
He will forever remain in our hearts as we carry him on up the mountain peaks, swimming in oceans, and through our travel adventures. Those of us lucky enough to know him learned to live life with a sense of adventure, love and kindness. He will be greatly missed.
At his request there will be no memorial . Donations in his name can be made to the John Muir trail association , JDRF or the charity of your choice.
