James Leonard Widmaier
James, “Jim,” Widmaier was born in Columbus, Ohio, on July 2, 1935, to Carl and Lillian Widmaier. He graduated from Rosary High School in Columbus in 1953. He earned a B.S degree from Otterbein College in 1958 where he studied math and physics. He went on to study law at Franklin University Law School and earned his Bachelor of Laws degree in 1964. In 1966, he earned the degree of Juris Doctor from Capital University. He joined the Ohio State Bar Association in 1965 and practiced law in there for over fifty years being honored in 2015 by the Columbus Bar Foundation for more than 50 years of honorable service and conferred the title of “Senior Counsellor”.
Jim lived life to the fullest. He had a wide range of interests. He had many pursuits including: playing piano, carpentry, engineering, real estate, flying and traveling. He and his partner, Wendy, traveled the globe! He and Wendy moved to California in the 1990s. Jim split his time between California and Ohio maintaining his legal practice and friendships. Jim spent the last few years of his life in Palm Springs where he enjoyed visiting with friends, going to the theater and spending quiet times at home.
James (Jim) was preceded in death by his parents, Carl Widmaier and Lillian Wolford of Ohio; brother, Richard Widmaier of Phoenix, AZ, and his partner of forty years, Wendell Moreland of Columbus, Ohio. He is survived by his nephews, Michael Widmaier of Phoenix, AZ, David Widmaier of Lakeside, AZ, and Daniel Widmaier of Peoria, AZ, and his niece Karen Widmaier McHugh of Glendale, AZ, along with ten great nieces and nephews and fourteen great, great nieces and nephews, all in Arizona. There will be a Celebration of Life on Sunday, October 16, 2022, in Palm Springs, California.
