Janice L. Scherkenback of Murrieta, California, joined our Lord on December 8, 2017 after a courageous battle against Alzheimer’s Disease. She was born on July 21, 1931, in Wallingford, Iowa. She was the youngest of eight children born to Lewis and Jenett Rustad. She married Wayne Scherkenback on August 12, 1956. They have three children: Robin, Paige Allen (Scherkenback) and Paul Scherkenback.
Janice attended Hoover High School in San Diego and graduated in 1949. Between 1952 and 1955 Janice went to Los Angeles to attend California Hospital Nurses Training school. She began her career at Sharp Hospital in approximately 1952 and was the first nurse to be awarded a 20-year pin.
In 1976 Janice was promoted to Director of Nursing Activities. Her favorite job was discharge coordinator. She rejoiced in seeing people heal and be able to enjoy life. In 1998 Janice announced her retirement from Sharp Hospital after over 40 years of service. Her life and dedication to service to others is an inspiration to everyone.
Janice is survived by her spouse Wayne Scherkenback, her daughter Paige and son Paul. She was preceded in death by her parents, her seven siblings, her daughter Robin, and many friends and relatives.
A Memorial service will be held Saturday, December 16, 2017, at 11:00 A.M. at Hope Lutheran Church with Pastor Sandra L. Bentz, Presiding. The Church is located at 32819 Temecula Parkway, Ste. B, Temecula, CA 92592. A reception will be held at the Colony Club House in Murrieta, California from Noon to 3:00 P.M.
