John Maurer, better known as HANS, was born in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany on November 10,1936. His parents were Anna-Antonie Grone nee Maurer and Siegfried Kemser and his two siblings Siegfried (Sigi) and Gunter. He is survived by his brother Gunter his wife Ulla. His nephew Ralf, his wife Terry and son Mats Otto. His niece Kerstin, husband Carsten, and daughter Anna-Antonie. As a teenager and a good ice skater he joined an ice skating show in his hometown where he became good enough to be brought to the USA and landed in Chicago, in 1958, working for the Ice Capades. He traveled worldwide cities until he was drafted in the US Army and served overseas.
He was stationed in, of all places, Garmisch his hometown, at the Carioca Cafe, where he skated nightly. When he finished his service tour, he returned to Chicago where he continued to skate a few more years. After that he was working for IBM as a Tech support clerk until he retired. Coaxed by his older brother Sigi to move to Seattle, he traveled to live there for almost 20 years. He then moved to Palm Springs in 2003 and decided to stay there. He met his friend Marco, better known as Tony, in 2004 and moved in with him to live in Cathedral City, CA. until his passing.
