Leslie G. Vance, originally of Tarkio, Missouri, passed away peacefully in his home on April 23, 2023, at the age of 82. At his side was his dedicated and loving wife of 59 years, Mitsuko; daughter, Tamera; and granddaughter, Kiyomi.
Leslie is preceded in death by his mother, Iona Padgett; son, Katsunobu Vance and brother, Ivan Buster Vance. He is survived by his sister, Stella Carlson; his children; Roy Vance, Tamera Lawson, Linda Umbarger, and Glauce Lana. His legacy and memory will carry on through his several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Leslie, achieving the rank of Gunnery Sargent, an incredibly proud Vietnam Veteran, and retiree from the United States Marine Corps. He served honorably for the entirety of his career. Leslie was stationed in Okinawa when he met the love of his life and wife, Mitsuko. Leslie and Mitsuko were long time residents and happily settled in Apple Valley, California for the past 36 years.
Leslie was an infamously hard worker and knew the importance of adherence to rigorous standards in all aspects of life. This was a trait he was known very well for passing on to his loved ones. Additionally, this diligence was displayed in his hobbies. He thoroughly enjoyed his weekly league bowling, yielding impressive scores and multiple and various awards. A long-time hobby of his was his undeniable interest and respect for weaponry of all ages, favoring and focusing on his impressive knife and gun collection. A softer side of his devotion was displayed in his notable passion and adoration for his many pets over the years. Family members unanimously accept, this was a man that would always be there when he was needed; everyone could always count on Grandpa.
As per Leslie’s request, no memorial or funeral services will be held. In lieu of flowers, a small donation in your family’s name to any Veteran’s Charitable Organization would be dearly and fondly appreciated.
