Peggy was born October 10, 1948, in San Jose, to Julia and Joseph Pon. Peggy grew up in Saratoga, as the first-born of nine children, helping her parents with overseeing her siblings and working on the family orchard. She graduated from Mother Butler Memorial High School before attending Lone Mountain College San Francisco. She received her Bachelor’s degree in English with a minor in French and obtained her secondary teaching credential. Peggy worked for over 30 years in the alternative high school education program, helping countless students achieve their diplomas, imagine hopeful futures and find a positive pathway. Her commitment to high expectations and equity was inspirational.
Peggy is preceded in death by her father Joseph Pon and her brother John Pon. She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Pete, son Logan (Kaisha), son Alex (Lauren) and grandchildren Iris and Baby Roberts; mother Julia Pon; sisters and brothers Jackie Williams, Annette Brown, Mary Lou Sucheski, Andy Pon, Janet Pon, Joe Pon, Mike Pon and a large extended family.
Peggy was a strong woman, steadfast, rich in character, and a great role model. She lived simply and treasured family above all. Her family and those who know her feel blessed to have been in the presence of such a genuine individual. Her grace and beauty will be dearly missed.
