It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Michael "Mike" Harrelson on Sunday, November 5, 2023, at the age of 82, in Yucaipa, CA. Born on February 23, 1941, in Morrilton, Arkansas, Mike was raised in Indio, California, by his parents, Mike and Elizabeth Harrelson.
A proud patriot, Mike served honorably in the United States Army from 1966 to 1968, including a tour of duty in Vietnam from 1967 to 1968. His dedication to his country reflected his commitment to duty and service.
Throughout his 82 years, Mike lived a life filled with passion for the outdoors. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and the thrill of gold mining. Fishing trips to Mexico held a special place in his heart, where he could embrace the tranquility of the water. He had a deep love for the outdoors, especially the desert, and made his home in Yucca Valley, CA, finding solace and connection with nature.
Professionally, Mike was a skilled heating and air conditioning contractor and sheet metal worker. He shared his expertise and dedication with the community, leaving a lasting impact on those he served. For 15 years, Mike was the proud owner of Smith Creek Saloon in Banning, CA, where he created a welcoming space for friends and community members to gather and create lasting memories.
Mike's kind and gentle nature endeared him to all who knew him. His warmth and compassion touched the lives of family, friends, and acquaintances alike. He will be remembered for his genuine spirit and the positive impact he made on those around him.
Mike is survived by his beloved wife, Margaret Harrelson, with whom he shared 37 years of marriage. His devotion to Margaret was a testament to the enduring power of love. He is also survived by his brother, John Harrelson, sister, Louise Venezia, stepdaughters, Sherie Stevens and Kerry Beck, son-in-law, Eric Beck, and granddaughter, Ariana Necochea.
