surrounded by loving family on July 24, 2023. She was recently preceded in death by her partner in life,
husband of 60 years, Gunnery Sergeant Leslie G. Vance. The love and dedication to each other endured
throughout the years and assuredly now will carry on eternally.
Leslie and Mitsuko resided in Apple Valley, California for 37 years. Establishing roots while raising their
five children; preceding them in death was beloved son, Katsunobu Vance; survived by Tamera Lawson,
Linda Umbarger, Roy Vance, and Glauce Lana.
Mitsuko had numerous siblings and was preceded in death by her sister Kinue Post.
Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren were many and filled their lives with joy, love, and irreplaceably
priceless memories. There is not a moment that passed where this was not a notably treasured
experience for Mitsuko.
Mitsuko was born in Japan during the Okinawan War, growing up in and surviving a war-torn country,
and eventually immigrating to America as an adult. These incredibly despondent circumstances and
channeled perseverance would forever establish and secure Mitsuko’s immeasurable enduring strength
and spirit.
Mitsuko was known as a beautiful, loveable, island girl with a childlike wonder of everything she ever
saw. This woman to be adored was purely selfless, unconditionally loving, and kind to all. She was fierce
with the most caring intention and fell into her noble reputation with ease; this dedicated matriarch was
turned to for all. She was always described as a wise balance of the sweetest and strongest woman to
ever be known. There is not a person that met her, that did not fall in love with her and her intoxicating
strength.
A regularly occurring teatime came to be a meeting of the minds and a place to vent and support, where
it seemed the problems of the world would resolve.
The pain of this passing is surreal but being fortunate enough to have her in our life was more so.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.tridentsociety.com/location/palm-desert-ca for the Vance family.
