Nancy was born on September 26, 1934 to Wallis and Katharine Ross. She grew up in Highgrove until 1946 when she and her family moved to Riverside. Nancy attended University Heights Jr. High and graduated from Riverside Poly High School in 1952.
After high school, Nancy married Lind Fiveland, an Air Force serviceman, who was stationed at March Air Force Base. She also began working for Pacific Bell as a long distance telephone operator and did that for 3 ½ years.
Nancy Fiveland loved her life. Being a mother and homemaker brought her the most joy. She would always greet loved ones with a happy smile and her hugs were warm and could melt away life’s stresses.
Nancy was active in a few volunteer organizations throughout her lifetime. She was the Ways and Means Chairperson for the Poly Proud Heritage Marching Band from 1985 to 1987. She also volunteered with Para Niños, a support organization for the Children’s Home Society, and would go to high schools to share the message of “Adoption as an Option”. She was a docent at the historic Mission Inn Museum for a number of years which she found very rewarding. For more than 30 years she was an active member in a codependency support program. She deeply cherished her “family” there and guided and inspired many people in their recovery.
She had a lifelong passion for flowers and once she became certificated in floral design, she worked in a card and gift shop where she was able to make beautiful bouquets for grateful customers.
She had been on hospice with Suncrest for 20 months and her final 9 months of life were spent living at Serenity Assisted Living in Riverside. She enjoyed making friends with the other residents as well as the staff who were very loving and dedicated to making her happy, safe and comfortable. We are forever grateful to all of them!
Nancy always had a sweet and loving spirit and she touched countless people on her life’s journey. She will be greatly missed and never forgotten.
She is survived by her caregiver of 12 years, her youngest daughter, Leilani Brabant (Peter), oldest daughter Nanette LeBorgne (Wayne) of Colorado, and son, Jon Fiveland.
She is preceded in death by her two brothers, Arthur Ross and Thomas “Tommy” Ross, two sisters Betsy Godwin and Georgia Lee Magee, and her ex-husband Lind Fiveland.
We will celebrate her life and honor her memory for the rest of our lives.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in her name to Mary S. Roberts Pet Adoption Center in Riverside, CA or Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Kanab, UT.
