Randy joined the Navy on September 28, 1970, his 18th birthday. He was honorably discharged in September of 1983. In 1974, during his time in the Navy, he married his first wife, Janae, and they had two children while he was stationed in Italy. A son, Travis Long and daughter, Kristen Long (Fisher).
Randy and Judy were married on December 30, 1989 and they shared 35 amazing years together until his passing on December 18,2024. When he and Judy were married, he became stepfather to her three children, Joshua, Jaelyn, and Janna McGuire.
Randy and Judy lived in Santee for 32 years where for 35 years, he enjoyed working as a photographer for SPI Photo eventually opening his own company. He was very well known and loved in the community by his neighbors, friends, parents and kids alike. Randy loved working with all different ages of children, but was partial to the teenagers that worked for him, teaching them all aspects of photography, and mentoring them as well. He was always available if they needed advice, or just needed to talk.
Randy’s business, like so many during covid, had to shut down in 2020, and once Judy retired, they left Santee, bought a home and moved to Hemet. By this time Randy’s health was declining and unfortunately was not able to travel as they had planned to do.
Randy loved going to the desert with his “toys” and fellow desert rats. He also enjoyed taking long rides on the quad or the Joyner with his “rats’ and their toys, while Judy stayed at camp with his favorite “boys” Pepper and Tigger. Those little dogs were the light of his life, he adored them. He always looked forward to taking the motorhome camping with Judy, Pepper, and Tigger. Randy also loved having barbecues, soup nights, and as the neighbors can confirm, decorating for Halloween and Christmas! People would drive down the cul-de-sac just to see his decorations.
Randy is survived by his wife Judy, his son Travis Long and family, daughter Kristen Long (Fisher) and family, step-son Joshua McGuire, step-daughters Jaelyn McGuire, and Janna McGuire, brothers Bryon Long and family, and Michael Long and family.
Randy was loved by family and friends and will truly be missed by all who knew him.
