Richard Roy Fay, age 81, of Palm Springs, California passed away on Sunday, October 3, 2021. Rick Fay was born in Tottenville, Staten Island, New York in June 1940 to Charles and Mildred Fay. Rick’s father was a career army officer, so the family moved frequently, offering Rick a chance to live in Maryland, Kansas, Albuquerque, Washington DC, Heidelberg, Germany and Oberammergau, Bavaria. This inspired in him a lifelong love of travel and adventure.
Rick served in the US Navy and later attended the University of Southern California. In the 1980s he founded Radar Digital Systems in Auburn, California, which developed surveillance systems for ports and harbors in such far-flung places as France, China and Taiwan.
His first marriage produced his beloved daughter, Romy. In 1979 Rick married Donna Weeks and they enjoyed 42 years together in Los Angeles, Auburn, Santa Cruz and Solana Beach before retiring to Palm Springs In 2013.
He had many hobbies and interests, including sailing, tennis, long distance trail running, cycling and ham radio.
Rick is survived by his wife, Donna; daughter, Romy and son-in-law Richard Mason; grandsons Logan, Colton, and Blaine Mason; nephews Matt and Greg Dathe; and sister-in-law Linda Dathe.
