Ronald Lee Kleckner passed away on April 10, 2020 in Palm Springs, CA at the age of 81. Born September 2nd, 1938, in Rockford, Illinois, to Donald and Elvira "Vi" Kleckner. Ronald is survived by his wife, Leslie Reder Kleckner. He was a loving father to daughters, Kimberly (Ronald) Levitt, Vicki Massett, and son Timothy Kleckner. Ronald was also the proud grandfather to 8 grandchildren and great grandfather to 3 great grandchildren.
Ron spent the entirety of his career employed by the US Postal Service. Beginning as a humble letter carrier, Ron completed his 40-year career with the Postal Service by retiring as a long time Postmaster of Itasca IL, in 1996. Ron also served on the plan commission of Itasca for many years. Following his retirement, Ron embraced his life-long passion for woodworking and photography, as well as spending long summers with family and friends at his summer home on Washington Island, WI. There he spent countless hours sailing, swimming, organizing family get togethers, as well as crafting endless wooden toys and furniture. Ron dearly loved his island friends, his time on Washington Island, and most importantly, his family.
Relocating to Desert Hot Springs CA in his later years, Ron embraced his faith and became an avid attendee of his community churches, both Bethel Church of Washington Island as well as Grace Church of Desert Hot Springs. He was well known and loved by the congregants of both and never failed to involve himself volunteering for many activities and events.
In his final years, Ron continued to demonstrate zeal for life and great determination following a stroke in March of 2019. He had the utmost respect and gratitude for the nurses and therapists who speeded his recovery.
A memorial service on Washington Island tentatively planned for the fall. Family members will provide additional details to those attending. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Bethel Church of Washington Island, WI, or Grace Church of Desert Hot Springs, CA.
