Thomas Alan Kanarian

Thomas Alan Kanarian passed away peacefully on April 3, 2025, at the age of 80, surrounded

by love and cherished memories.

Born on February 5, 1945, in Los Angeles, California, Tom grew up in Westchester, where he

spent his formative years. At just 17, he answered the call to serve his country by joining the

United States Marine Corps. Tom served with honor during the Vietnam War from 1962 to

1964, forging lifelong bonds with his fellow Marines and carrying his pride in that service

throughout his life.

Following his military service, Tom pursued higher education with the same dedication and

drive. He earned both his undergraduate and master’s degrees from the University of Southern

California, and remained a proud Trojan for life.

Tom’s professional life was marked by leadership and innovation. He began his career with

Hughes Aircraft, went on to serve as President of Theta Cable, and ultimately concluded his

distinguished executive career at Warner Bros. Studios.

On April 27, 1991, Tom married the love of his life, Sue Coplin, his longtime partner and best

friend. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, meaningful friendships, and

unforgettable travels around the world. Their shared joy was evident to all who knew them.

Over the years, they made their homes in Hermosa Beach, Manhattan Beach, and Indian Wells,

California—each place filled with memories and warmth.

Tom was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Red and Mary Lou Kanarian. He is

survived by his devoted wife, Sue; his sister, Kim McNamara, and brother-in-law, Don

McNamara; as well as many loving nieces and nephews, extended family, and countless

friends whose lives he touched.

Tom will be remembered for his strength, warmth, integrity, and unwavering love for his family

and country. His presence will be deeply missed, but his legacy will live on in the hearts of all

who knew and loved him.
