Sacramento, California - Andris Silenieks (known as “Andy”) passed away peacefully in his sleep on December 15, 2021 surrounded by members of his loving family. Andris is survived by his loving wife, Mary Beth Silenieks, his devoted sons, Erik Silenieks (Inese Silenieks), Juris Silenieks (Steven Eagan), his adoring granddaughter, Amy Rogers (Michael Rogers), admiring grandsons, Toms Zirins, Edgars Zirins (Ella Donchenao), Peteris Zirins (Hannah Zirins) and two great grandsons, James and Noah and step daughter, Dana Ashcroft.
Andris was born near Riga, Latvia and immigrated to the United States in 1949 with his adopted mother and father, (Alida and Ernests Upenieks) and sister, Ausma Hermann (Pierre Hermann) where they started their new life and journey in Grass Valley, CA. Andris briefly attended Grass Valley High School before enlisting in the US Army where he was stationed in Germany. Upon his discharge from the US Army he relocated to Sacramento, CA to be closer to his family after they relocated to Sacramento, CA while he was stationed overseas.
A business opportunity found Andris moving to San Jose, CA where he opened Hambones. The pizzeria soon became the favorite “hangout” for students at San Jose State University where pizza, music, girls and Anchor Steam Beer made for lots of fun, frolic, good times and great memories. Most importantly, there was a core group of ‘guys and gals” that have remained the best of friends for almost six decades. Andris always referred to them all as his “Hambones Family”.
Andris also worked for Lyon’s Restaurants for over 25 years as he worked his way up the corporate ladder to Regional Manager. While at Lyon’s Restaurants, Andris welcomed customers with a sparkle in his eye, his famous big smile and infectious and friendly spirit. He was an avid fan of all sports. He loved sharing his own personal recap reel of his favorite sporting events. Undoubtedly, he was the most faithful Latvian 49er Fan ever!
