Betty was born in Sutter, CA to Lester and Mary Kersey. She graduated from Wheatland High School in Wheatland, CA. She married Bill F. Dooley in 1958, had three daughters and raised their family in Lincoln, CA. In 1988, Betty married William McAvoy and enjoyed living in Paradise, CA. In 1999, Betty moved to Chico, CA to work at Butte County Health until her retirement. She married Mark Dasch of Chico in 2013 and lived in Chico up to shortly before her death.
Betty was a devout Christian her entire life and would always write “God is so awesome in all our lives-no matter what” in cards and letters. She was part of the ‘kids birthday card ministry’ at Evangelical Free Church by sending thousands of birthday cards to children who visited and attended church. Betty greatly enjoyed her weekly square dancing and singing in the church choir while tending her beautiful flower garden. Once her grandchildren came along, she would send their birthday cards with a check written for the age they were turning – of course, the grandchildren couldn’t wait until they turned 18. Betty loved Christmas and made sure all her family + extended family would have a goody bag to open so everyone had to wait for her to finish stuffing the bags which delayed opening presents! As Betty’s health started failing, her joy for life and her spirit kept her going.
Betty is survived by her husband Mark of Chico; her daughters Debbie Dooley of Chico; Carrie (John) Verbeke of Libby, MT; Catherine (Tom) Ruff of Lincoln; four grandchildren – Rachel (Keaton) Smith; Michael Ruff; Hannah and Matthew Verbeke; one great grandchild Remington; her brother Jerry (Joyce) Kersey of Wheatland; four nieces and one nephew. She is preceded in death by her parents, Lester and Mary, her brother William (Billy) Kersey; and her niece Katherine (Katie) Kersey.
A Celebration of Life service for Betty is scheduled for Thursday, May 25th, 2023 at Butte Bible Fellowship Church at 2:00 p.m. For more information call Cathi at (916) 645-2781.
