Cynthia Ann Muir, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, teacher, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 2, 2025, in Davis, California, at the age of 80.
Cynthia was born on May 20, 1945, at Long Beach Community Hospital, and spent most of her life in Southern California. She attended Long Beach City College, where she met the love of her life, Albert William Muir Jr. She later earned her degree in Art from Long Beach State and went on to become an elementary school teacher—a role that perfectly matched her creativity, patience, and deep care for others.
Cynthia taught at both John Muir Elementary and Tincher Elementary, where she worked primarily as an ESL teacher. She had a special gift for making her students feel seen and supported.
In 1996, after a series of health challenges and three brain surgeries due to cancer, Cynthia was forced to take early medical retirement from teaching. In 2019, she was diagnosed with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP), a rare, degenerative neurological disease that took so much from her, but never her radiant smile.
She and Al shared a passion for travel and took more than 50 cruises together, visiting cities across the globe and collecting memories and stories along the way. She also had a lifelong love of the cinema—she could always be counted on for film trivia and never missed an Oscar season.
In 2013, Cynthia and Al moved to Davis to be closer to family. She is survived by her devoted husband of 54 years, Albert Muir Jr.; her daughter, Ashley Muir Bruhn; her son-in-law, Aron Bruhn; and two cherished grandchildren, Hudson (b. 2011) and Skyler (b. 2014).
Cynthia was preceded in death by her parents, Christine (Drozd) Solomon and Henry Solomon; and her siblings Anita Peters, Leslie Shepherd, and John Solomon.
Those who knew Cynthia remember her as kind, soft-spoken, and compassionate. She had a deep love for her family. Her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of those she loved and those who loved her.
