Harry Charles Prahl, age 84, passed away on February 2nd, 2025 at his home in Roseville, California with family by his side. Harry was born in Laramie, Wyoming on November 8th, 1940 to the parents of Harold “Bud” and Dorthy “Dee” Prahl. Harry was the oldest of three children.
Harry grew up in Laramie and worked at his father’s drug store. He attended Nellie Iles Elementary School, and Laramie Junior/Senior High School. In high school, he was on the wrestling team, the football team, and built theatre sets for the thespian club. After high school, Harry joined the Army National Guard and completed a year of basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. He then ventured out to Hollywood to earn his radio broadcasting license. With his license, he returned to Laramie and worked as a broadcaster for the KOWB radio station. While in Laramie, he met the love of his life Mary Cecil Cartwright at the local Tastee Freeze. After a short courtship, they were married on August 26th, 1961 at the United Presbyterian Church. During the early years of their marriage, he was called up for service with the Army National Guard during the Berlin Crisis. In 1962, they welcomed their son, Brian, followed by their daughter, Micah, three years later. During the same time period, Harry began his career with AT&T in Rawlins, Wyoming. In 1970, he transitioned to a position in San Francisco and moved his family to the town of Petaluma, California. During his career, he was part of the team that installed the trans-Pacific telephone cable. In 1989, he completed his degree in business administration. The following year, Harry retired from AT&T and accepted a position as the facilities director for the Stoneridge Mall in Pleasanton, California. In 2008, Harry retired again and moved to Roseville, California. In Roseville, Harry and Mary quickly built a new circle of friends within the neighborhood and at their church. In his free time, Harry enjoyed bocce ball, golf, water aerobics, crossword puzzles, and cribbage. Harry will be remembered for his wisdom, humor, strength and devotion to family and friends.
Harry is survived by his wife Mary Prahl; his children Brian (Shelly) Prahl and Micah (James) Mello; grandchildren Kayla (Jesse) Kingdon, Kadin Mello, and Harrison Mello; siblings Ralph Prahl and Karen Heismann.
A Celebration of Life Ceremony will be held on Saturday, February 22nd, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. PST at Shepherd of the Sierra Church located at 5400 Barton Road in Loomis, CA. The event will be live streamed starting at 10:50 a.m. and recorded. The following link to watch the service is as follows:
