Our beloved Mom, Renate, passed from this earth surrounded by loving family on June 21, 2023. Mom was born in Bielefeld, Germany in 1924 and was the younger daughter of Friedrich Krause and Adele Krause (nee Blanke). She is predeceased by her older sister Charlotte and by her husband of seventy-two years, Norman. Mom’s full given name was Marie Elisabeth Auguste Renate Krause. From an early age she loved the theater and wanted to be an actress when she grew up. She fondly remembered childhood family vacations in the mountains and at the North Sea. In her late teens she studied acting in Poland. After the war she met and fell madly in love with Norman, who was serving in the US Army in Germany as part of the post-war occupation. Married in 1950, Renate and Norman were stationed around the United States and Europe over the next twenty-eight years, raising two sons and settling in Northern Virginia after Norman’s retirement from the Army. Mom loved politics and worked for the Republican party during her time in Northern Virginia. She was especially proud of meeting Nancy Reagan, hosting a meet-and-greet for Senator John Warner at her house in Woodbridge, and meeting the Reverend Jesse Jackson. Mom loved spoiling her family, including vacations at Virginia Beach, dinners at Outback and clever Christmas presents. Mom is deeply missed by her sons Scott and Michael, daughters-in-law Debbie and Victoria, as well as her grandchildren, great grandchildren, friends and family. A private graveside service will occur at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon.
