In loving memory, 1942-2024
Russell McDrew (Russ) of Auburn, CA, passed away on January 18, 2024 surrounded by his loving family. Russ was born in Oakland, CA, 81 years ago to wonderful parents, Mason and Evelyn McDrew. He was raised in Petaluma and Santa Rosa, CA. In 1964, he was drafted into the United States Army and was involved in the Vietnam War. Russ went on to have a twenty year career in the food industry and as a member of the Butcher’s Union. The love of his life was Virginia “Ginnie” McDrew (nee Flocchini). Married in 1971, they enjoyed fifty years of life together. Ginnie preceded Russ in death in 2022. They were passionate world travelers. When home, Russ was just as passionate tending their park-like garden in Auburn. He also loved to hike in the Sierra Mountains especially with his sister, Susan. Along with his wife, Russ was a devoted member of St Teresa of Avila Catholic Church in Auburn.
Russ grew up with loving siblings: Harriet Yurchak (Ed) of Bellevue, WA; Susan Geisler (Bill) of Lincoln Hills, CA; Richard McDrew, (Gloria) of Reno, NV; and Mary Brodie (Jon) of St George, UT.
The last few years of Russ’ life, he was particularly thankful for the care he received from nurse, Evangeline Mariano Lane, and more recently hospice of Sutter Health Care of Roseville, Ca.
Services will be held for family and friends on at Calvary Catholic Cemetery, in Citrus Heights, CA.
