Shirley was born in Tokyo on May 26th, 1960. Her father, Charles Smith, was in Japan for the military when he met her mother, Yoshiko Kubushiro. They moved to the United States when she was a young girl and lived in Texas, Florida and eventually Northern California near Sacramento which was where she planted her roots and called home.
After graduating from beauty school in 1984, Shirley became a hair dresser and eventually owned her own salon which was her true life’s passion. Her career brought her incredible joy and she considered her clients dear friends and her extended family. She worked happily while undergoing chemo and immunotherapy and only officially retired her shears a few months before her passing.
Shirley was a loving mother, a proud grandmother and the type of person who made friends everywhere she went. She was generous, beautiful, fun and complimentary - a true straight shooter and ‘people person’. She loved watching Jeopardy, sports and movies. Her favorite time of year was the holidays, Christmas always made her so happy.
Shirley is survived by her son Shayne Bond (wife Laura Bond); her grandson, Madden Bond and granddaughter, Drew Bond; her former husband Michael Bond; her sister Michelle Stanfield and her late mothers partner John Hodge.
A celebration of life is being planned in her honor. For details please join the “Friends of Shirley Bond” group on Facebook.
