Sidney was born in Omaha, Nebraska to Paul and Cecilia Wyckoff. He was the oldest of 3 brothers; Gary, Thomas and Bryan. The family moved to Sacramento where the boys grew up. Over the years he lived in the surrounding areas of Orangevale and El Dorado County.
Sidney graduated from Bella Vista High School Class of 1966. He married young, for a short time and had a son with his first wife, Sherry. He soon married again and shared almost 40 years of life with Evelyn Nirese Zbur, with whom he had 4 children.
Sid worked his way up the corporate ladder at Pacific Bell in Sacramento; he even spent a few years flying to work in the bay area, with a co-worker, by private plane out of the Cameron Park Airpark. He retired from Pacific Bell, after 29 years, ending his career as a Senior Computer Systems Analyst (1973-2002). After retirement Sid went back to school and was on the Dean’s List from Maric College, Sacramento where he earned an AA Degree in Paralegal Studies.
He was a member of the North Hills Radio Club as an amateur HAM radio operator in 1982, with the call sign of WA6PHL, a hobby he shared with his mother Ceil Pringle, WB6PBS. More recently, he enthusiastically obtained his FAA license and began flying a drone, was a member of the 2023 AMA, Academy of Model Aeronautics, with the goal of starting a new business. Sidney passionately pursued his religious faith throughout his life. He was forever young at heart.
Sid was preceded in death by both his parents and his youngest brother Bryan Wyckoff.
Sidney is survived by his 5 children; Joseph, Trina, Charity, Nick and Julie; his 12 grandchildren and his brothers Gary and Thomas Wyckoff.
He was one of a kind, always ready to share stories about his life with anyone willing to listen. He remained a philosophical thinker influenced by the time in which he grew up. In his youth he lived that 1960’s freedom loving lifestyle and you could have found him any day hitchhiking down the highway ready for the next adventure. He had no hesitation about getting to know a stranger and making a new friend. Unknown to most, Sid was a lifelong poet. In his honor; here is one of his poems:
“A WEAKNESS IN THE BLOCK I CALL MY MIND IS BEING FILLED WITH FRIENDS AND LEFT BEHIND
AND TIME, THE LIVING BANDAID OF THE PAST BEGINS TO DO IT’S WORK, I FEEL, AT LAST
AND WHY, MY WORRY WORN AWAY, SHOULD I STILL WANT FOR YOU TO STAY
BUT LOVE, THERE IS NO THER WORD TO ANSWER FEELINGS SO ABSURD
SO DO YOUR THING AND ANSWER FREEDOMS CALL
BUT SOFTLY LAND FOR I WON’T BREAK YOUR FALL OR EVEN BE THERE WHEN YOUR LAUGH IS THROUGH FOR I MUST LEAVE, MY LIFE HAS GREATER THINGS TO DO
SO FARE THEE WELL, ALONE YOU’LL SOMEDAY BE
BUT FEAR YOU NOT, FOR THEN, YOU TOO ARE FREE”
