December 27, 1948 – May 3, 2025
After a courageous two and a half-year battle with cancer, William Steven Milo, Jr., lovingly known as Steve, passed away the evening of May 3, 2025.
Steve earned his B.A. from the University of Colorado Boulder. He launched his career, married and began raising a family in Bellevue and Issaquah, Washington. In 1989, the family moved to Northern California, settling in Granite Bay. Eventually, as empty nesters, Steve and his wife moved to Lincoln, California.
Steve became a self-taught expert in the emerging high-speed data communications industry holding corporate sales management positions before joining a start-up in Silicon Valley. At age 43, a rare heart condition led to an unexpected early retirement. As his heart health improved in later years, Steve embarked on a new, fulfilling path as a hearing aid specialist with Miracle Ear. For eight rewarding years, “Doctor Steve” helped people rediscover the joy of hearing. His joy in helping others kept him motivated until an aggressive cancer diagnosis brought his professional journey to a close.
Raised amidst the beauty of Colorado, Steve developed a love for adventure, leadership, and service while engaged in the Boy Scout’s Littleton Troop 444. He achieved his Eagle Scout, a distinction exhibited in his character, values, and everyday skills. The peace and spiritual renewal he found in the Rocky Mountains and the Sierras extended to his love of music and the emotions it brought into his life. He met an insatiable appetite for learning through reading, and rarely encountered a book he didn’t consume. His quick intellect and strong opinions combined with an open mind for the thoughts of others made for robust conversation.
Steve’s life focused on family, curiosity, purpose, and compassion. Rooted in his Catholic faith, Steve was a proud member of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre and was an active leader in the Knights of Columbus, where he served as Grand Knight of the local council.
Steve’s friendship and deep partnership with his wife Kathy was foundational to their nearly 45 years sharing love of family, laughter and adventure; truly a partnership for the ages. He was a loving father, and a playful grandfather affectionately called “Pop Pop,” whose games, stories, and silly popsicle-stick jokes will be cherished forever by his three grandchildren.
Steve is survived by his wife Kathy, his son Patrick and grandson Ziggy of Loomis, California, and his son Spencer Milo and granddaughter Zoey Claire, and grandson Gunnar Benedict of Castle Rock, Colorado. He also leaves behind his loving sisters Michaele Samuelson (Paul) and Robin Tobey (Jim), and his brother Jim. He cherished longtime friendships with the Malouf, Root, Palermo, Murray, and Correa families.
A funeral mass honoring Steve will be held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church (https://www.stjosephlincoln.com/), 280 Oak Tree Lane in Lincoln, California on Thursday, June 12. A rosary (optional) will begin at 10:30 AM followed by the mass at 11:00 AM. Lunch will be provided following the service in the adjacent Family Center and all are welcome to attend. The mass will be available live via Livestream (https://www.stjosephlincoln.com/live-stream) and will be available for viewing for several days thereafter.
If you wish, in lieu of flowers, donations are encouraged to Steve’s former Boy Scout Troup, Friends of 444 Foundation (https://www.coloradogives.org/organization/Friends-Of-444-Foundation), a 501(c)(3) non-profit in Colorado, Tax ID 84-3325228, or your favorite charity.
Rest in peace, our dearest Steve. You have been deeply loved and will be forever missed.
