Alma Alicia Weinert

Alma Alicia Leon Weinert age 86 of San Diego, California passed away in the early morning hours on March 3, 2025.

She was born in Oxnard, California on March 2, 1939, to Vincent Leon and Petra Villegas Leon. She attended Santa Clara grammar school and graduated from Santa Clara High School. After graduation she began a modeling career which she pursued for 5 years culminating in being named Miss Hamm’s for a regional brewing company promotion. Additionally, she followed in the footsteps of her Mother Petra and Aunt Lydia as the Queen of the annual Oxnard Fiesta.

She continued her education and trained to become a Dental Technician. She worked in private practice in the Oxnard area and upon moving to San Diego worked for the federal government. She retired from the Naval Dental Clinic San Diego in 2004 after 27 years of service. After retirement she worked part time for another 10 years at the San Diego Convention Center in Guest Services.

Alicia loved traveling and took many trips to Europe with her sister Ofelia. She set foot in nearly every country on that continent. Additionally, she traveled to various countries in Asia as well. She was active in a philanthropic sorority, Gamma, which raised funds for St. Jude Children’s Research hospital. She was the founder of Las Damas, a great group of ladies who meet once a month to spend time with each other and experience new adventures. She was a member and a past president of The Victorian Ladies Society. All this and she still found time to play bunco on a Thursday evening.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Vincent and Petra, and her sister Ofelia. She is survived by her partner of 46 years Frank Wolski. She leaves behind her son Peter (Kelley), grandchildren Hugo (Cami), Christopher, Alexander, and Jacqui, great-grandchildren Kaiden and Lainey and nieces Sabrina Conrado and Shelly Malloy. She will be missed by many of her friends and cousins of the Escalante, Leon and Villegas families.
