Arthur Stephen Klein, age 80, of San Diego, California passed away on September 24th, 2024. Arthur was born on November 13th, 1943, in New York, New York. He spent his entire career in the garment industry in New York, New York before he moved to California to be closer to his family.
Arthur was passionate about being a husband, a father, a big brother and a dear friend. And while he cared so much for his family and friends, he cared deeply for the welfare of people around the world.
Arthur is survived by his wife Jane, son Richard, daughter Krista, daughter Jamie, sister Barbara, son-in-law Jason, daughter-in-law Ari, and grandchildren Cameron, Maya, Taylor, and Izzy.
Arthur always knew how to make his wife Jane feel so special. He made her feel that she was the most beautiful and loved wife in the world. And his love for his children was unwavering and constant. He was so dedicated to his son Richard no matter the distance; he was so proud that his daughter Krista became a teacher in addition to the joy and love she provided others, and he treasured the time with daughter Jamie sharing with her the activities he loved most: sports, art, and music. His children will miss their conversations with him, his wisdom and thoughtful advice and guidance.
Arthur cherished his relationship with his younger sister Barbara. He loved to tease his son-in-law Jason about the Padres by calling them a minor-league team, and he was thankful to his daughter-in-law Ari for taking such great care of his son and granddaughter. His love for his grandchildren was immeasurable. He loved to spend time with them cooking, picking them up from school, and taking them for ice cream. He was most proud watching them graduate from high school. He loved to tell us all extraordinary stories that always turned out to be true.
Arthur was the best friend and mentor to so many people of so many ages. He made his friends feel loved, supported, heard, and strong. His friends miss him dearly.
He was passionate about music and art. He loved everything from Opera and Symphonies to Blue Grass, Bob Dylan, The Band, and Leonard Cohen. He even played the trumpet for the Coast Guard Band.
He was passionate about sports. When he was young, he fell in love with baseball, both playing the sport and cheering on his beloved New York Yankees. He also loved his NY Giants and was excited see them when they played the San Diego Chargers in San Diego. He loved tennis (attending a tennis event was our first date), and he eventually fell in love with soccer. After years of coaching his daughter Jamie’s soccer teams, he became a referee in the soccer community. He went from everyone’s favorite coach to everyone’s favorite referee.
Arthur loved to travel. And although he traveled the word, he marveled at the magnificent beauty of the United States National Parks. He especially loved The Grand Canyon and Monument Valley.
Arthur was an avid reader and was extremely passionate about the United States, and its political system. He loved a good conversation (or sparring) over policy, politicians, and the good of the people.
He was preceded in death by his father Leonard Klein, mother Arlene Klein, and brother David Klein.
Arthur was a hero to many. He tried so hard for so many people for so long. His family’s heart is broken, but they find comfort knowing he is reunited with his dad, mom, and brother.
