Lloyd passed away on July 27, 2020 in his residence at the age of 91. He was born May 6, 1929 in Walla Walla, Washington. He is survived by his loving wife of sixty-three years Cloma Otey at their residence. He leaves a brother-in-law, Duane C. Cash and wife, of Weatherford, TX. Nephew David W. Cash and spouse, Tres Piedres, NM, and nieces Evelyn Farmer and husband, Pampa, TX, Heidi Williams and husband, Freeport, FL, and Dixie Nickell and husband, Pampa, TX. Preceding him in death were his parents, Buford Taylor Otey and Ethel Pearl Hanson Otey of Dayton, Washington.
Lloyd was amazed that some of his early childhood fancies, came true. Traveling to foreign lands, achieving a higher education, and piloting his own plane to name a few. After early grade school and graduating from Dayton High School, Dayton, Washington, he joined the US Military. He served his country from 1946 - 1948 in Company B 21st INF 24th Division stationed in Japan. After honorable discharge, Lloyd attended Washington State University, Pullma, WA and graduated in 1953 with a BA degree in English. He taught for a year and then elected to attend Kinman Business School to further his education.
For the majority of his career which spanned some 30 years, he was a Business Manager and auditor for several different car dealerships in the greater Los Angeles, California area where he held the respect and confidence of each dealerships’ owners. Additionally, in 1985, he founded and operated Grand Print Shop in Glendora, CA before moving from Los Angeles to San Diego.
Lloyd enrolled in several woodworking classes at Palomar Community College and enjoyed very much his later in life passion, producing some beautiful pieces of work. He also found enjoyment working for several years at Cut and Dried Hardware, in Solana Beach, and made friends wherever he landed.
Lloyd was a lifelong avid literature reader. He especially enjoyed reading the Classics, History, and mysteries and loved to discuss books and share his favorite titles with other passionate readers. He will be greatly missed by many.
Arrangements for cremation and burial have been made with Trident Society, San Diego, CA.
