Carolyn Haag (Burkhard) was born in Zanesville, Ohio and moved to San Pasqual, California at age 8, with her family. She attended Escondido High School and Dominican College in San Rafael, where mutual friends introduced her to her future husband, Frank Haag. After marriage, due to Frank’s military assignment, the pair moved to Alamogordo, NM and eventually to Alaska, Eielson AFB, until the conclusion of his enlistment. The couple moved to San Jose, Ca where Carolyn continued her 28 year career with the telephone company.
As a result of Carolyn’s mother’s passing, Frank and Carolyn moved to San Diego in the early 1970’s. Carolyn, her sister Jeanette, and their husbands, helped raise the sisters' three brothers, Charles, Jerome, and Justin Burkhard.
In 1974, Carolyn and Frank moved to Loma Portal, where they met friends who became family, raised their daughter, Carlen, and became an active member of the St. Charles Borromeo community. When not working, the couple volunteered their time with the Red Cross, Great Oaks Village, March of Dimes, and the Senior Volunteer Patrol. Carolyn was a member of the Altar Society, the St. Charles' Women's group, a weekly prayer group with friends, and a monthly Bunco Club.
