David was born December 30, 1944 in Alamosa, Colorado. As the oldest son of a Navy Corpsman, David lived in many places throughout his childhood and while growing up.
David came to San Diego in 1956, graduated from San Diego State University with a BA in Business Administration and Management and would eventually marry Sybille B. Sehmisch, to whom he was married for 53 years.
With a brief tenure in Life insurance prior, David would go on to spend over 40 years in Commercial Real Estate as a broker, investor, developer, principal and senior management for public agencies. During his career, David conducted over $1.4 Billion real estate transactions including sales, acquisitions, leases, joint ventures, and build-to-suits, representing lessees, lessors, buyers, sellers, government agencies, and developers.
Following his role at the City of San Diego, David was the Principal and President of Telecom Lease Consultants, specializing in representing property owners in negotiating leases for telecom sites on private or municipal property.
As former Deputy Director of the Real Estate Assets Department of the City of San Diego, David managed the day-to-day operations of the department and led the negotiations of sales, leases, lease administration, asset management, property management, telecommunication leases, appraisals, requests for proposals (RFP's) and development of City-owned assets.
Prior to duties at the City of San Diego, David was a Commercial Division Vice-President - Business Development- at Stewart Title of California and during his two-year tenure, approximately 300 new accounts were created for the company. David also served as the Senior Asset Manager at the Port of San Diego and was assigned to direct Real Estate Special Projects (1993-2004). David honed his real estate expertise through his roles as a Commercial Real Estate Broker with the John Burnham Company and Grubb & Ellis Company (1979-1993), specializing in commercial property sales and leasing.
Throughout his career he was an active member of the National Association of Realtors, the California Association of Realtors, the San Diego Association of Realtors and in 2002, he achieved the Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM) designation, David then served as a Director on the Board of Directors of the San Diego Chapter of CCIM for over 5 years.
In his personal life, David spent almost 18 years coaching girls’ soccer locally in San Diego and that time was truly a highlight for him. David enjoyed the opportunity to positively impact young athletes and watch their skills and confidence develop over the years.
David was also an avid golfer and enjoyed spending time outdoors with his favorite people on golf courses locally and world-wide. Additionally, David spent a lot of time traveling all over the world with family and friends and appreciated the exposure to other cultures, foods and perspectives that he encountered during these trips.
David is survived by his wife, Sybille (Billie) B. Sandoval; his daughter, Kristen Sandoval Wall; his son-in-law, Eric Gregory Wall; granddaughter Brittany Ann Hendrickson; grandson Alec Gregory Wall; grandson Chandler Eric Wall; grandson Evan David Wall; brother Robert Charles Sandoval; brother Jon Glen Sandoval; sister Debra Ann Farlow; brother-in-law Glen Farlow; nephew Devon Farlow (Jessica); nephew Alex Farlow (Kathleen); nephew Brighton Farlow, loyal cat Lyla and countless friends near and far.
David was the patriarch of his family, he was a devoted father, grandfather and friend to many and will be greatly missed for his love, support, wisdom, friendship and sense of humor.
