Dolores was born in Caddo, TX on April 29, 1927 to Theodore & Eula Lee Laxson. Dolores spent her early years in Oklahoma City, until moving with family to San Diego in her teens (San Diego High School alumni, class of 1945). Being in a Navy town, she met a dashing, young sailor, Harold E. Knode, whom she married on October 20, 1946 in Yuma, AZ. They were happily married until his passing on March 30, 1993.
As a Navy wife, she traveled the world to all of Harold’s ports of call. Along the way they welcomed three children—Kathleen, Richard, and Kevin. In 1964, they made Bay Park their forever home, and Harold retired from the Navy in 1966. Harold went to work for the County of San Diego. Dolores soon followed working at the SDC Health Dept. Working in the same complex allowed them to carpool and even lunch at home (before there was traffic in San Diego)!
Dolores & Eula Mae (her sister) walked along Mission Bay every morning for over 40 years (even after retirement) getting up before dawn to get their 2 to 3 miles in. Every-one agrees this exercise is why the sisters have led such very long lives. Dolores was a proud member of the Chez Amies Women’s Club with her sister, who is now the last surviving member. For over a decade, the sisters also volunteered with the Mt. Soledad Memorial Association, which Dolores enjoyed immensely.
Dolores lived a life of love, faith, kindness and generosity. She will be missed and
forever in our hearts. She is survived by her sister/best friend Eula Mae; 3 children and spouses Kathy (Ken), Rick (Terry), & Kevin (Kristi); 7 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren; and her favorite niece & nephew (Lori & Brad). The family wishes to thank Kaiser Hospice for their incredible care during her final days. Donations in her memory can be made to the Mt Soledad Memorial Association.
