On Tuesday, July 18, 2023, at the age of 82, “Chato” Domingo Martinez closed his eyes for his last beauty rest. He is survived by his devoted wife Mary; children Margaret, Richard, and Yolanda; grandson Devon Arreola, son-in-law Jose Arreola; his little sister Guadalupe Pacheco and many nieces and nephews.
Chato Martinez was a first-class husband, father, grandfather, uncle, friend, cowboy, fisherman and Padre fan. For 46 years he succeeded as an auto recycler in San Diego. He was known for always lending a helping hand, kidding, and making people smile. He was devoted to his family and friends. For over 20 years he lived his cowboy dreams riding his horse every Saturday near the beach. On Sundays he would spend the day with his “lovey” driving around either the mountains or beaches stopping only for an ice cream or to buy more pan dulce. And when fishing season opened, you could find him fishing the streams of the high sierra mountains. A true outdoorsman and cowboy. He loved his pan dulce that was as sweet as he was. If you knew Chato, you knew his humor. We are sure he arrived at the pearly gates waving his green card.
In lieu of funeral services and flowers the family requests that you make a donation to San Diego Therapeutic Horsemanship at https://www.sandiegogives.org/organization/San-Diego-Therapeutic-Horsemanship in honor of Chato Martinez as he loved his horses and rode for 20+ years. This organization is near the ranch where Chato stabled his horse. It is a non-profit organization that provides therapeutic horsemanship-based programs that help improve the physical, cognitive, and social well-being of children and adults with emotional, learning and physical challenges.
