George Fred (Freddie) Ogle, passed away on August 8, 2021, in Oceanside, California. Born on May 9, 1936 in Crystal City, Missouri, he grew up near the Mississippi River, and always carried that history with him. His favorite song “Proud Mary”, was his anthem to his childhood, and he loved to dance to it. He was a fantastic dancer, and he and Rosemary, his wife of 64 years, were usually the first on the dance floor.
George proudly served in the Marine Corps for 20 years, making many lifelong friends that he cherished as his ‘brothers.’ He worked for Southern California Edison before he retired.
George and Rosemary built their first home on Emma Lane in Vista, California and enjoyed 45 years there before moving to the Oceana community in 2015.
An avid sports fan, he loved baseball, football and hockey. The St. Louis Cardinals were his team.
He loved being outdoors, in the backyard or in the woods of Connecticut and Missouri, always smoking his corn cob pipe, and will forever be remembered by the smell of that pipe, and the trail of smoke that we could always locate him by.
He was our storyteller, the life of our party, and he will be dearly missed.
George is survived by his wife Rosemary, children, Deborah, James, William and Roseanna. Grandchildren, Tara, Devon, Ryan, Clay, Shea, Weston, Matt, and Great grandchildren, Wilhelmina and Iverly.
There will be a private Military Honors Memorial service at Mira Mar National Cemetery at Mira Mar Air Base, where George will be interred. A celebration of life will be at the American Legion Vista Location, time and date to be announced.
Charitable donations may be made in his name to the American Legion post 365 Vista, CA
