Gregorio G. Camacho, known by many names in his family, Greg, Greggie, Dad, Papa, 1SG, Top, and Prez, passed away peacefully with members of his family by his side in San Diego, California on January 27, 2019.
He is survived by his three daughters: Regina Camacho and her children, Natalie Bunton and Dylan Martinez of El Paso, Texas; Carol Burwell and her husband Jeff and their children, Christopher and Jared Burwell of Wasilla, Alaska; and Charleene Poissot and her husband, KC and their children Zoe Poissot and Tyler Knauf of San Diego, California. He is also survived by his siblings, Patricia Santos of Agana Heights, Guam; Victor Camacho of Sinajana, Guam; and his sister, Dorothea Camacho of Port Orchard, Washington.
Greg served in the U.S. Army for 23 years and was also a veteran of the Vietnam War where he earned many medals, including the Presidential Unit Citation, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and the Vietnam Service Medal. Upon retirement, he immersed himself in service to his community through the Transmountain Optimist Club. After his wife, Gisela, passed away in 2011, he moved from his home of 40 years in El Paso, TX to San Diego, California in October of 2012. He quickly became active again in his new community and was instrumental in creating NOCVA (Natl Organization of Chamorro Veterans in America) and CHAMOCSD (Chamorro Optimist Club of San Diego). He was also a strong supporter of the House of Chamorro and other organizations supporting the culture, history and lifestyle of his native island of Guam.
No matter where he went, our father devoted his life to serving others. He was a loving father and family man. He will be in our hearts forever.
