Henrietta M Moreno

Henrietta was born in Los Lentes, New Mexico. She came to California as a teenager, determined to find better opportunities for herself. She lived in Van Nuys, and then East Los Angeles with her children, Tony (Preston Anthony) and Cory from her marriage to Enrique (Hank) Moreno. She later lived in Norwalk with her husband Pete Vallejo and stepsons Junior, Larry, Adam and Gene.

Henrietta was a hard worker, earning her high school diploma at Garfield Adult School in East LA, while working and raising her kids as a single mother. Her diploma allowed her to start a long career with the US Postal Service, rising before sunrise for nearly two decades to sort mail by hand. She had a sharp mind, as she had to memorize all the zip codes across the US for her work. She started a second career as an AARP community outreach worker after she returned to New Mexico after retiring.

She was a devoted Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Sister, Aunt and Friend who was fiercely loyal to the people she loved. She was not shy about telling someone if she thought they could do better. Those who received her "advice" were lucky that she also shared her sharp sense of humor.

She was courageous through many years of declining health due to Alzheimer's. Until her last days, she took delight in beautiful plants and flowers, birds, and the sun shining in through the window. Her strength, devotion to family, determination to create a better life, independence and sense of style set an example for anyone who was lucky enough to know her. There will never be another like her!

She was preceded in death by her son Tony, her daughter Cory and her siblings Dora, Mary, Benita (Benny), Alfred and Nestor. She is survived by her cherished grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, stepsons, nieces and nephews in California, New Mexico and Texas.

She will be laid to rest on May 25, 2023, 2pm. Graveside Service at Sunset Hills Cemetery 24000 Waalew Road, Apple Valley, CA 92307
