John Gilbert Garcia of Lakeside, CA, passed away peacefully at age 86 with a nightingale singing to a full moon in a lovely garden outside his room just before midnight on Friday, June 21, 2024.
John was the youngest of 9 children, born in New Mexico, a son of a railroad foreman. He was lovingly raised by his older sisters, including Ramona Olmstead who survives him.
He served his country proudly in the US Air Force as Airman First Class and loved telling stories of his time stationed in Japan.
John and Karen met in Denver, CO and later moved to San Diego to build their life together in Lakeside. John was an amazingly talented pianist, and many generations enjoyed his jazz and easy listening music and accompanied him at the piano bar.
He told the best Dad Jokes in history. Please think of him whenever you hear a particularly corny joke or encounter a rubber chicken. He would love that.
In addition to his sister, John is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Karen Garcia, daughters Juanita Schoen and Andrea Garcia, granddaughter Mari Schoen, and dozens of beloved nieces and nephews who adored him.
